Camping

Both locals and tourists enjoy camping in Sri Lanka as a means to be surrounded by the island’s wonderful landscapes and its biodiversity. Everything from misted-out mountains to tropical rainforests and deserted beaches, Sri Lanka’s natural diversity offers idealistic settings for a memorable camping experience.

The national parks of Sri Lanka, which include Yala, Wilpattu and Udawalawe are the prime camping spots for wildlife enthusiasts. Instead, these parks offer registered campers the ability to use established tenting zones and eco-cabins from June through September. Amongst others, Yala is known for leopards and Udawalawe for  elephants. For the trekkers and panoramic view lovers, Ella & Hortan Plains camping is very popular in Hill Country. Perched at the top of a sheer cliff with a deep valley and distant sea views, World´s End in Horton Plains National Park is very cool (in every sense), rather English park-like in character, and unique to Sri Lanka. Equally, the wide-open campsites with stunning tea plantation views encourage waterfalls and ancient temple exploration of our own in Ella.

Camping on the beach is another favorite, with a lot of these located along the east and southern coasts. All over this laid-back tropical paradise, including at scenic sites along the coastline in destinations like Arugam Bay and Trincomalee, where campers enjoy relaxing ocean-side views by day and are lulled to sleep later that night, listening only to the gentle sounds of waves lapping on shore.

Camping in Sri Lanka is an awesome way to immerse yourself in nature, making many of the beautiful parts of this island a little bit more accessible and memorable. A Blue Space Alternative For those truly trying to detox, camping is the quiet eco break you need that only leaves footprints and ears grateful to the sounds of nature.
